Fishing The Smith River

The undisputed Gem of Northern California courses through granite canyons in a relatively short distance to enter the Pacific twenty two miles below the Oregon border. Monster king salmon and current state record steelhead represent the gene pool. The gin clear waters are partly to blame for the notoriously low catch rates. Still, the anglers come!

Fishing the Trinity River

Easily accessible along Hwy 299 and beginning it's downstream and westward journey in Lewiston, this river empties into the Klamath in the small community of Weitchpec. The crisp, cold mornings give way to sun and warmth in the afternoon shadows. The steelhead in the upper reaches, having traveled great distances, seem "troutlike" as they take a wide variety of bugs. A stark contrast to their coastal brothers.
