Fishing The Gualala River

Predominantly a late run (February) of native steelhead, the river is regulated as catch and release only. The lower section is best known for it's fly water and is easily accessed by a road on it's eastern shore and well defined trails on the west. The Gualala is second only to the Smith in clearing. Fishable waters begin at the confluence of "Twin Bridges" on the Annapolis Rd. and flow to the scenic ocean community of Gualala. The upper reaches pass through private property. Drift boats or personal watercraft are necessary coupled with permits.

Fishing the Russian River

The Russian River, once known as the hottest steelhead river on the west coast, is still holding its own with the help of a hatchery system. Efforts to bring back its native steelhead are underway. Located in the heart of the Wine Country and one hour north of San Francisco, this river offers accessibility to the Bay area fishermen. Bordered primarily by private property, it is best accessed by driftboat. Steelhead fishing starts around Thanksgiving and continues through early March.
